Periscope

Volta.1Since I don’t have a television, I often find off beat ways of “watching” television through live streams on my iPad. Sometimes, these streams give me inspiration in ways I would never expect! About two months ago, I heard about a new free app, Periscope, that is used mostly by young people to record and broadcast life experiences in-the-moment. For some reason, some television news stations broadcast the “backgrounds” of their daily newscasts on iPhones or iPads using Periscope. I find watching these “behind the scenes broadcasts” especially enjoyable, most notably when studio flaws happen that most of the viewing public is totally unaware of. I stumbled upon a periscope stream regularly broadcasted by Guy Atchley, an older anchorman at KGUN TV in Tuscon Arizona. This gentleman is an inspiration to me because he seems to be without ego. He is very generous with his time and he is a talented photo artist. Guy spends countless hours making images both for other people and for himself in his beautiful his home state. Nearly every day he broadcasts from his favorite coffee house where he communicates with his many online fans.

As I thought about Guy and his use of the coffee house as a forum for both art and fellowship, I occurred to me that the coffee house might be a wonderful spot for me to make regular journey daybook pages. So, yesterday, I suggested to a friend, that we meet at a new-to-me coffee house in downtown Gainesville where we both enjoyed a few hours of time working. Volta is a beautiful place attractively fitted with contemporary furnishings, a beautiful shiny Florentine espresso machine, and many comfortable tables and chairs with people busy working. I am posting the two pages I made in just over two hours time at Volta. The experience and the coffee were both beautiful to me, and I look forward to a return visit to Volta and to other coffee houses that are sure to present themselves and appear in future journey daybook pages. Volta.2
